4 common symptoms of Acid Reflux

Acid reflux is what happens when some of the acid content of the stomach flows up into the esophagus which in turn causes heartburn, that is the burning sensation a person feels from the acid that comes up from the stomach. Over time, that acid can cause damage, irritation, and symptoms will get progressively worse. If left untreated, it could eventually lead to irreversible changes in the cell structures in the esophagus and increase your risk of esophageal cancer.

 

So here are common symptoms of Acid Reflux

 

Heartburn

According to an article by WebMd, Medically reviewed by Gabriela Pichardo, MD on March 05, 2022,  heartburn is a burning pain or discomfort that can move up from your stomach to the middle of your abdomen and chest. The pain can also move into your throat. Despite its name, heartburn doesn’t affect your heart.

 

Regurgitation

Another common symptom of acid reflux is regurgitation or the sensation of acid backing up into your throat or mouth. Regurgitation can produce a sour or bitter taste, and you may experience “wet burps.”

 

Dyspepsia

According to an article by WebMd, Medically reviewed by Gabriela Pichardo, MD on March 05, 2022, Many people with acid reflux disease also have a syndrome called dyspepsia. Dyspepsia is a general term for stomach discomfort. Symptoms of dyspepsia include: Burping, Nausea after eating, Stomach fullness or bloating, Upper abdominal pain and discomfort

 

Difficulty in Swallowing

According to an article by Endoscopy Cetr of Red Bank, Difficulty in swallowing, is the feeling of food “sticking” in your throat or chest. It literally feels as if you have a lump in your throat or that food is stuck in your throat or chest. You may also experience a choking sensation when you swallow food.  When acid reflux occurs, acid flows back into your esophagus causing irritation and discomfort.
