Physical Violence is any intentional act causing injury or trauma to another person or animal by way of bodily contact. It leads to much greater risk of substance abuse. Physical Violence leads to other forms of abuses such as substance and sexual abuse.

Physical Violence in a relationship often starts gradually, such as with a push or a slap, and then becomes progressively worse over time. It’s like a lighter, small and sometimes insignificant, but it can burn down a whole skyscraper. It can destroy years of relationship, marriage, business.

So as the name implies Physical Violence involves using: People go around with machete, dagger. Some with emotional weapon like uncontrollable anger. This act has done more harm to the society than any good. A typical example is the display during our election periods. If we don’t handle our personal physical violence tendencies we might eventually burn down our society.

Also, its adverse effect on our health: HBP comes to mind, Stress, Mental stress, Inability to concentrate, Reduces productivity.

Do you know the number of youths who are no more because of physical violence, all in the name of cultism? Quite a number of homes have crumbled because of physical violence. Lots of promising futures have sunk into the ocean of time because of physical violence.

How to handle physical violence

1. Be informed: A platform as this is a place to be mentally empowered. Be informed. Being physically violent doesn’t make you a strong man or woman. I guess it only makes you less of a human and more of an animal. A lawyer was sentenced to jail last year I guess. In Ibadan, she stabbed her husband. Irrespective of the sins of the man, she could have handled it wisely if she had learnt how to control the physical violence tendencies in her. So, be informed.

2. Learn to talk to yourself. Even if the society is taking physical violence as a norm, you should dare to be different. It pays!

3. Don’t lose your cool and if peradventure you do, learn how to walk away. Not all battles are worth fighting. Some battles can only be won by walking away.

4. If you are dealing with physical abuse at home, at school, or at work, you should seek immediate help right away. You can also reach out to others if you are nervous about speaking to the police or other support services. To deal with the trauma of physical abuse, do not be afraid to seek professional therapy and counseling.
