Obviously, we are talking music by emerging music voices in the Nigerian music industry at the first quarter of 2019. If you’re music or social media savvy, you must have vibe to young new artist music one way either on Instagram or other platforms keeping their social media littered with videos of freestyles and covers showcasing their talents. Their songs have been played on TV musical channels as well as on radio as we are doing now. MCM, are they devoting their time to getting noticed? Are trying to match up with bigger acts like Davido, Wizkid, Tubaba…? The Nigerian music space is very clouded at the moment, seems everyone is trying to get a spot with record label right?

MCM: Well! It’s not always about getting signed to a record label. Remember, Small Doctor was helped by people who love what he does among others. Y’all remember we featured some emerging acts that thrilled Nigerian music scene in towards the end of 2017and the major part of 2018 speaking of Teni the entertainer, Odunsi (The Engine), Wavy The Creator etc. Not all of them were signed to labels and they were making waves at the time.

I remember we featured the likes of Picazzo Rap signed to YBNL, Lyta…etc who had barely started out and got signed to record labels in December also. Perhaps that informed my thinking. Hey! It’s not about signed or not signed talents but emerging music voices this 2019. Quite a number of younger of them have been added.

No. 4. Shugar by Oxlade:

Oxlade whose name is Ikuforiji Abdulrahman Olaitan is one of the outstanding acts this year yet as he’s gradually becoming a household name in the industry. He has managed to garner a solid fan base that show him support and have helped build his career.

Last year, Oxlade first gained prominence in the mainstream when he featured on BlaqBonez’ Mamiwota, delivering a very catchy hook. The song topped several charts and this boosted Oxlade to the limelight. He also featured alongside YBNL’s Fireboy DML on a song that caught Davido’s attention and heightened his interest in the young singer’s career.

Oxlade is Nigeria and a graduate of Lagos state university (LASU). Describing his sound as Afro-fusion, Olaitan sets to make great music project and break records. He has released quite a number of songs including Iyanu, Ojoro, Questionnaire, and more. He also made covers to different popular songs and freestyles in a bid to stay relevant and put out content. He has worked extensively with producer Ojah B.  Oxlade has been putting in work on his his craft for a while now and Davido seems to have finally noticed by Davido. Is he signed to signed to DMW now MCM?

Visuals for the Shugar dropped in April-toward the end of 2018, Oxlade released the single Shugar. The Afro-pop single quickly climbed on different charts, making it one of the hottest singles released by a new act)

Born in the year 2000 into a Nigerian family, Divine Ikubor better known as Rema started his unprofessional music career from a very young age. The 18-year old music prodigy has been described as the most valuable wonder-kid in the African music scenery.

It’s interesting how new and fresh acts are doing things differently, with a more refined approach. They have a distinct sound, mostly a seamless blend of different genres with the element of Afro. I feel like sometimes they also like to take over the music scene by introducing street and make them all go viral.

Yeah! Emerging music acts like to overtake the music scene putting the musical big shots on their toes. Who says 9ja no get talents? We got Fireboy and on No.3 and 2. Some info here about these two young talents:

We’ve been talking music by emerging music talents from at the first quarter of 2019. We’ve played 4 songs by the select talents so far on nos 4, 3and 2 and of course 1 bonus at the intro of the segment.  Undoubtedly, we cannot not mention names of big acts who have given true definition of hip-hop in 2019, without adding names of other good upcoming talents working day and night to come into the limelight in the music business.

Yeah, some have been signed by record labels because they have put in the works that enabled that happen. Babe, what are you still doing? It really doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from. If your song is good enough, People will gladly want to help and associate with you when they see the Potential in you. A lot of amazing talents out there didn’t just get there by chance. They actually devoted their time into getting noticed tagging mainstream artists. And Boom! They got noticed!
