The governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike, has issued a query to the vice chancellor of the state university, Professor Blessing Didia, over reports of shooting within the institution’s campus.

A short statement from Simeon Nwakaudu, Wike’s media aide, said the query also had to do with recent rampant complaints of bribery, informally known as ‘sorting’, within the university system. “Governor Wike directed the vice chancellor of the Rivers state university to respond to the query in writing within 24 hours,” the statement said.

it was earlier reported that Governor Wike recently approved the appointment of the emir of Lafia, HRH Sidi M Bage, as the chancellor of the state university, Port Harcourt. The development was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 17, on behalf of the governor by Nwakaudu.

The statement noted that Governor Wike made the appointment in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 3 and schedule 1 of the Rivers state university law, 2017.
