Fela Durotoye, The Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) presidential candidate, has said he decided to open a fund raising account to avoid being indebted to “godfathers” or “cabals”.

“Any candidate you see chunking money out for campaign will definitely have to return them to the cabal he got it from if elected,” Durotoye said on Monday on TVC’s Your View.

“I have no godfather, I have no plan to have one,” he added.

Durotoye launched his GoFundMe campaign on 18th May.

Although Durotoye’s moves of generating money is not new to Nigerian electoral system, as President Muhammadu Buhari also raised campaign funds from the public in 2015.

People who believed in Buhari’s incorruptibility and ability to ‘change’ Nigeria donated more than N50 million ($138, 494) to his cause.

However,Durotoye, has so far realised the total of $3,546 of his $500,000 intended goal in the crowdfund initiative.

He further stated that every month he accounts for money contributed to the funding account and releases the campaign budget on his social media page.

“I am the only presidential candidate that has been releasing campaign budget.” Durotoye said.

He also maintained that the next election is not the “brick and mortar” Nigerians are used to but the one that will determine the country’s progress.

Durotoye, therefore, urged Nigerians to desist from restricting their choices because they feel their candidate will not win but instead ” waste your vote on someone you believe in.”

The presidential aspirant disclosed that there are ongoing plans to collaborate with other aspirants in the likes of Oby Ezekwesili the presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria and Omoyele Sowore presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC) in a bid to achieve success in the February 2019 election.
