We feature Nigerian highlife duo ‘The Cavemen’ on our #AOTW

The Cavemen founded March 2018 are a Lagos-based Nigerian highlife combination band established by siblings, Kingsley and Benjamin Okorie. They are singers, songwriters, and record producers credited for some of the notable projects in the Nigerian entertainment industry like Asa, Bez, Lady Donli, Onyeka Onwenu. They call their genre of music, Highlife Fusion which is a mix of afrobeat, jazz, highlife, and soul music.

 

Four – Were Kwushin feat. Cobhams Asuquo: This song Garnered 11k views on its official audio on YouTube, off the album “Love and Highlife” which was released in July 2021 featured amazing vocalist; Cobhams.

 

Three – You Me I: Garnered over 48k views on its official audio on YouTube. Off the album ”ROOTS” which was released on the 21st of August, 2020.

 

FYI: They credit their driver for introducing them to high life because he always played Oliver De Coque‘s songs which was where their love for highlife grew. They were discovered by Lady Donli and are known for their live performances. The album “ROOTS” was recorded in their living room and was fully produced by the duo. They also produced 11 of the songs on Lady Donli’s Enjoy Your Life album who in turn was a co-executive producer on Roots.

 

Two – Anita: The song Garnered over 54k views on its official video on YouTube. It is off their album “ROOTS” which was released as a single on the 12th of July,2020.

 

Awards & Accolades

  • They won the ‘Best Alternative Album’ category at the 2020 Headies Award ceremony.
  • Although not won, Their song Anita was nominated for the Best Alternative Song at the 14th Headies Music Awards.
  • In 2020, their debut album ‘Roots‘ was released to critical acclaim which has over 482.2k streams on Spotify and has been streamed in over 91 countries.

They featured on this one with Buju And the official audio garnered 159k views on YouTube.  This song was released on the 28th of October 2021 off Bnxn’s EP “Sorry, I’m late”.

 

One – Selense: This song Garnered over 177k views on its official music video on YouTube. Off the Album “Love and Highlife”. The single “Selense” was released on the 9th of July 2021. The Cavemen’s ‘Selense’ is a blend of elements of modern and classic rhythms. The video for ‘Selense’, directed by Nigerian video director Clarence Peters, takes one back in time to the late 80s and early 90s era in Nigeria.
