An American lady got herself into serious trouble in Zimbabwe following a twitter post by her, calling the president Robert Mugabe, a “sick man”. 25-year-old Martha O’Donovan’s tweet went viral and got her arrested, although she denied making the post.

Martha O’Donovan did not speak to reporters as she emerged from a prison in the capital, Harare, and left in a U.S. Embassy vehicle following a release on a bail of $1,000 on Friday. She is expected to return to court on Wednesday and if convicted for subversion charge, she could face up to 20 years imprisonment.

The group representing O’Donovan, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights says it has represented nearly 200 people charged for allegedly insulting Mugabe in recent years.
