The Police on Thursday arraigned two neighbours, a male civil servant and a businesswoman who allegedly engaged in a fight and disturbed public peace. Isaiah Emmanuel, 38, the civil servant, and Goodness Chieze, 22, the businesswoman, were docked before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on a three-count charge of engaging in a fight, assault and malicious damage.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Nov. 24 at Victoria Street, Ojota, Lagos. Ihiehie said the police got an anonymous call that some persons were fighting and disturbing the peace of others. He said when the police got there they were told that Emmanuel had beaten Chiezie to unconsciousness because she broke the windscreen of his car.

According to the prosecutor, Chieze had hit Emmanuel with shovel and broken the windscreen of his golf 3 Volkswagen car. He said Chiezie acted that way because she heard that Emmanuel was gossiping about the fight she had with her husband to people in their neighbourhood. Ihiehie said the offences contravened Sections 54, 339 (1) and 170 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to charge. Magistrate O. Sule-Amzat , granted them bail in the sum of N10, 000 each and one surety each in like sum, and adjourned the case until Dec. 5 for mention.
