Troy Deeney’s Offensive Celebration Against Chelsea Could Land The Watford Skipper In Hot Water

Watford captain Troy Deeney could face more time on the sideline suspended after a bizarre goal celebration against Chelsea.

The Hornets skipper scored just his fourth goal of the season from the penalty spot to give Watford a first-half lead in their victory over the Premier League champions.

Rather than show his joy at netting an important goal, Deeney ran off with his arms outstretched and his middle finger up on both hands.

Some photos appear to show Deeney directing it towards the visiting supporters but it could be towards fans who have been critical of him for a string of poor performances and poor discipline this season. Either way it is not clear.

But it was a stupid action from the skipper and one that could land him in hot water at a time when Watford need his leadership.

It was not spotted by referee Mike Dean at the time, but is something that the FA are likely to look at and take a dim view of his petulance.

Deeney has already missed seven games through suspension, after manhandling Joe Allen against Stoke City in October and receiving a straight red card against Huddersfield Town in December.

Those misdemeanours have seen him limited to ten Premier League starts this season and Javi Gracia could be without him for crucial games with West Ham United, Everton and West Brom.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli was suspended for one England game after being caught on the television cameras doing the same gesture in a friendly.
