Share

Sexually Transmitted Diseases a.k.a Sexually Transmitted Infections are infections that are passed from one person to another mainly through sexual contact. These diseases/infections are numerous and they include but are not restricted to Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Herpes, Chlamydia, HPV, HIV/Aids, Public lice, genital warts etc.

Being that this is December and some people already have plans for ‘Detty December’, plus we may have some IJGBs coming back home to Africa, ready to go wild, I took it upon myself to bring you 4 was to stay safe and prevent yourself from getting any STDs this December.

According to an article reviewed by Dr. Traci C. Johnson, on January 30, 2019 up on WebMD.com, these 4 tips are important to prevent contraction of STDs.

1. Use latex condoms every time you have sex for the entire sex act. Condoms are not 100% effective at preventing disease or pregnancy however, they are extremely effective if used properly. Also, if you use a lubricant, make sure it’s water-based.

2. Avoid sharing towels or underclothing as you can catch scabies or public lice from these, since the infection can embed themselves in the fibers of the towels or underwear.

3. Wash before and after intercourse so as to protect yourself from infections e.g the Urinary Tract Infection (UTIs).

4. Get a vaccination for hepatitis B. This is a series of three shots. And also get tested for HIV.

Finally, it might be wise to consider that not having sex is the only sure way to prevent STDs. But just in case you intend to engage in sexual activity, you definitely want to apply these tips.
