Mohamed Salah has beaten off competition from the likes of Sadio Mane, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Victor Moses and Naby Keita to claim 2017 BBC African Footballer of the Year prize.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been one of the buys of the season as he sits on 19 goals in 24 games in all competitions for the Reds. He is also the top scorer in the Premier League with 13 strikes so far this term. Spanish reports claim that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is really keen on Salah and wants to bring him in to boost the club’s attacking options.

Despite the European champions showing an interest, Liverpool will simply not allow this move to happen and Jurgen Klopp is keen to keep the player. Perez reportedly wants to offer the Reds cash plus Lucas Vazquez in exchange for the 25-year-old forward who only joined the club from Roma in the summer.

As keen as Madrid might be to bring the BBC African Player of the Year to Spain, Liverpool aren’t going to let him leave after just one season and having stood up to Barcelona when they chased a move to sign Philippe Coutinho, they’d happily do the same to Madrid.
