Bongekile Simelane, better known as Babes Wodumo is a South African gqom artist and choreographer. She rose to fame following the release of her breakthrough song “Wololo”, in 2016. The song later appeared on her debut studio album, Gqom Queen, released in late 2016. She also appeared on Black Panther: The Album on a song called “Redemption”. In 2017, Wodumo was nominated for the BET Award for Best International Act: Africa. In July 2020, she released her second album Idando Kazi.
No. 4: Family feat. Cassper Nyovest, Mampintsha. The Electronic/Dance was released in 2016 off the “Gqom Queen Vol.1”
In 2016, she released her breakthrough album where she featured Mampintsha in all the songs on the project. The album also features Nigerian superstar D’banj, Madanon, Cassper Nyovest, DJ Sox, Sparks Wabantwana, Scoop, Kholwane, Khuzani, Danger & DJ Tira and In July 2020, she released her second project, titled Indando Kazi, where she featured mostly Mampintsha on 10 out of the 13 tracks. Other artists include RockBoy, Cultivated Soulz & Sizwe Mdlalose, Rhythm Soundz, Dladla Mshunqisi, and Tipcee, among others.
No. 3: Wololo feat. Mampintsha & Distruction Boyz. Her Breakthrough Single which also featured on her 2016 Album. The Song was nominated at the 16th Metro Fm Music Awards for song of the Year.
No. 2: Elamont feat. Mampintsha & Skillz. The Song features as the No 1 song off her second Studio Album released in 2020. It also features her “then” boyfriend “Mampintsha”.
On 3 March 2019, reports surfaced that Wodumo’s boyfriend and manager Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo had physically assaulted her. Wodumo broadcasted the incident on her Instagram Live. Mampintsha was arrested on suspicion of assault. Even though the relationship between the two had appeared to be over, both parties agreed to counselling, reconciled and are on good terms, with Mampintsha appearing on her second album Idando Kazi.
No. 1: Ka Dazz. After being trailed by several relationship rumors revolving around marriage and pregnancy, Babes Wodumo makes use of the hype by releasing the record titled Ka Dazz. The song does not feature any one and it is rumored that she did this to prove to Speculations going round that she couldn’t Make hit songs without featuring people. The song was also nominated at the “South African Gqom Awards 2019” for various categories.
