In respect to IWD (which was celebrated on the 8th Of March) we at THEBOXSHOW have decided to place our spotlight on 4 Female artists who have made impact and are also pushing African music to greater heights.

 

No. 4: No One – Becca (Ghana) feat. Busiswa & DWP Academy. Released in February of 2020. The song was produced by Dunnie.
Rebecca Akosua Acheampomaa Acheampong (born 15 August 1984), known mononymously as Becca, is a Ghanaian singer, songwriter and actress. She’s been active since 2007 till date and has released over 3 albums since her debut into the scene. She has established a rescue organization which raises funds to help children affected by HIV/AIDS in Ghana. In 2014, she became a Goodwill ambassador for UNAIDS. On 1 September 2009, GLO Mobile Ghana unveiled Becca as one of its brand ambassadors.

 

No. 3: Come Home – Avril (Kenya). Released in August of 2020 and produced by Ilogos and J Blessing.
Judith Nyambura Mwangi (born 30 April 1986) better known by her mononym Avril, is a Kenyan singer-songwriter, actress and entertainer. She was formerly signed to Ogopa Deejays, one of the leading music production and record labels in Kenya.  As a singer, she is popularly known for her singles “Mama”, “Kitu Kimoja”, “Chokoza” and “Hakuna Yule”. As an actress, she is best known for playing Miss B’Have on Shuga: Love, Sex, Money (2012). Avril’s contributions to the Kenyan entertainment industry have earned her one Nzumari Award, one Kisima Music Award, one Golden Mic Award and two Chaguo La Teeniez Awards.

Avril has been involved in several humanitarian campaigns, including the Chagua Amani Peace Campaign and Kenya Land Alliance. In February 2015, she became one of East Africa’s ambassadors for Oriflame Sweden, and AMREF’s Save an African Mother Campaign.

 

No. 2: Jamani – Sho Madjozi (South Africa). Off The “what a life” Album. The song was Produced By Tboy Daflame.
Maya Christinah Xichavo Wegerif (born 9 May 1992), known professionally as Sho Madjozi is a South African rapper, singer, songwriter, actress and poet. Regarded as one of the best performers in Africa,[citation needed] Madjozi incorporates the Tsonga culture through her music and public image. In 2019, Madjozi was named as one of Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30 for her contribution in the music and entertainment sector.

 

No. 1: Koroba – Tiwa Savage. Released In 2020 off the “Celia”Album. The Song was Produced by London.
Tiwatope Savage (born 5 February 1980), is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress. Born in Isale Eko, she relocated to London at the age of 11 for her secondary education. Five years later, she began her music career doing backup vocals for artists such as George Michael and Mary J. Blige. After participating in the UK edition of The X Factor and graduating from Berklee College of Music, Savage signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2009. Inspired by the growth of the Nigerian music industry, Savage moved back to Nigeria and signed with Mavin Records in 2012. She made an appearance on the label’s 2012 compilation album Solar Plexus. She has 4 Albums and in more recent News; she was announced as part of the “coming 2 America” album. Her song Koroba was also used in the movie.
