Sacked lawmakers shut down Akwa Ibom House of Assembly again

The Akwa Ibom House of Assembly is under siege again, as sacked lawmakers returned the complex to with heavily armed policemen and thugs.

The sacked lawmakers who now have a mace, are set to impeach the speaker, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Onofiok Luke and also suspend some members of the assembly. Vanguard reported that a faction led by Nse Ntuen, a member of the APC, who was purportedly elected Speaker last week held a session and are set to suspend 11 members, with Speaker Onofiok Luke top of the list.

There are 26 members of the assembly and other members to be suspended by the APC faction include; Udo Kerian Akpan, Felicia Bassey, Nse Essien, Lawrence Udofia, Usoro Akpanusoh, Ime Okon, Friday Iwok, Asuquo Archibong, Mark Esset, Emmanuel Ekpenyong, Aniekan Uko.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the sacked lawmakers were reportedly escorted into the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly complex, by men of the Nigerian Police. It was gathered that the lawmakers chased everyone out, manhandled the Press Secretary to the Speaker, Kufre Okon and headed straight to the chambers.

All the doors were shut while the former lawmakers were still inside the chambers for the proceedings.However one of the sacked lawmakers Victor Udofia, denied reports that the aggrieved lawmakers were planning to begin impeachment proceedings against Governor Udom Emmanuel.

While the PDP on its Twitter handle accused former governor Godswill Akpabio of masterminding the crisis, which caused the transfer of former police commissioner, Bassey Abang, the APC group led by Ntuen accused PDP member, Luke of carrying out illegalities, by suspending him and four other members.
