The former president said he would be giving out his vote for whoever he believes can defeat Trump.

Former United States president Jimmy Carter says re-electing President Donald Trump in 2020 will be “a disaster“. The former president said this at a town hall at the Carter Center in Atlanta Tuesday night, September 17, CNN reports.

He, however, said he was yet to decide who he would vote for in the forthcoming 2020 presidential election. According to him, one of the factors he will consider in choosing who to vote for is the possibility of the candidate defeating Trump.

He said: “I’m going to keep an open mind. One of the major factors I will have in my mind is who can beat Trump.

I think it will be a disaster to have four more years of Trump.” The former president also spoke on the US’ foreign policy which has been a major controversial issue under Trump.

Asked about Iran’s potential involvement in the recent Saudi Arabia oil field attack, Carter said he liked that Trump “seems to be reluctant to go to war“.

He also expressed hopes that the US find a diplomatic means to resolve the crisis between Saudi Arabia and Iran, regardless of whoever is found responsible for the attack.

Carter, 94, is the 39th president of the US from 1977 to 1981 and a member of the Democratic Party.
