The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has ordered the arrest of Kassim Afegbua, the media aide to former President Ibrahim Babangida.

Afegbua had earlier issued a statement on Sunday, February 4, 2018 purportedly signed by the former President, reportedly advising President Buhari to resign.

In the statement, Babangida called for a new generation of leaders to take over the leadership of Nigeria.

Another statement also made the rounds in the media dismissing Afegbua and denying the first statement.

According to The Nation, a source in the presidency said that IBB’s media aide is being accused of issuing a fake statement.

Babangida distances himself from denial statement

Meanwhile, former President Ibrahim Babangida has revealed that the denial statement was issued by his friends.

IBB also said that he stands by the first statement which was issued by his media aide, Afegbua.

He said that the media mis-represented the statement, adding that he did not ask Buhari not to contest in 2019.
