We’re celebrating the fastest accelerating artiste so far in 2018, who has stamped her artistic presence across major social media music sites and global music charts. She has also been statically predicted to achieve future success.

A young talent undoubtedly on the cusp on greatness.

Born Sigrid Solbakk Raabe in Ålesun  on 5 September 1996, known professionally as Sigrid, she is Norwegian and only started making music four years ago when her musician brother, Tellef Raabe, encouraged her to write her own music so she could perform at a gig with him.

Sigrid began her career in 2013 by releasing her debut single, “Sun”. The song was seen as her national breakthrough in Norway. She later signed to Petroleum Records the following year, and performed at festivals such as Øyafestivalen. (Øyafestivalen is an annual Norwegian music festival held in Middelalderparken (lit. the Medieval Park), Oslo.)

She has had a brilliant rise and just last year, she made her network TV debut on The Late Late Show with James Corden as part of the Apple Music Up Next series.

In addition to her music, she has received significant attention for her fashion sense, winning praise for her style from outlets like Vogue.

“Sigrid is one of those really special artists making quality, exciting and feisty — yet fragile — pop songs that are an absolute pleasure to play on the radio,” praised BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac in a statement.

In 2016, Sigrid signed with Island Records.

She is featured on the soundtrack for the 2017 superhero film Justice League doing a cover of Leonard Cohen’s 1988 classic “Everybody Knows”.

The Norwegian pop singer was named the winner of the BBC Music Sound of 2018 poll on January 12, 2018, voted for by some 170 industry experts, DJs, festival bookers, critics and former winners.

The 21-year-old singer beat Rex Orange County, aka British singer-songwriter Alex O’Connor, and Manchester-based R&B singer IAMDDB to the coveted title, which has previously been awarded to Adele, Sam Smith, Haim, Ellie Goulding and 50 Cent.

She’s written around 40 demos for her in-progress album
