Prominent Nigerian writer, poet and medical doctor, Dami Ajayi, lost his laptop containing valuable documents such as manuscripts, thesis, etc on a British Airways flight from Heathrow, London to Lagos, Nigeria. According to Dami, he used the laptop midair to do some works before packing it up back in his bag ‘one hour to the end of the flight’.
However, hours after leaving the plane, he opened his bag to find out the laptop was gone. He recalled leaving his seat ‘at least three times’, meaning the laptop must have been removed midair; at one of those times he left his seat.
“On the flight from Heathrow to Lagos, I sat in a window seat and my only company was sitting at the aisle seat. I put my laptop bag in the middle seat and once we were cruising, I brought out my laptop and bashed out an essay of about 3000 words.
“One hour to the end of the flight, I packed up my laptop and read a few articles saved in Pocket. I must have stood up at least three times, once to stretch my legs and two or thrice to use the gents.
“The flight arrived in Lagos and went about my merry way until I opened my laptop bag and my Asus Zenbook laptop was gone.” British Airways, in response to Dami’s message to help search for the laptop in their plane, said the cleaners who worked on the aircraft did not find any laptop there.
“I have been in contact with British Airways and they said the people who cleaned the aircraft didn’t find my laptop around my seat area,” he said. He subsequently called on the British Airways to respond to the official complaints he filed since the laptop was obviously stolen midair.
Responding, BA instructed Dami to report the matter to the police if he believed it was the lady sitting beside him that stole the laptop. Fellow writers and influencers who found the BA’s response unhelpful have all called on the airlines operator to do more in helping Dami to retrieve the laptop. The revered poet is, therefore, appealing to anyone who may have seen or been in the possession of the laptop to please return it.
He also urged the bespectacled lady with braces sitting beside him on the aircraft to please speak if she has any clue about how the laptop got missing.
“Please if you know anyone who may have seen my laptop, help me beg them to give it back. All my writings are inside it. Please forward this until it reaches the bespectacled lady with braces sitting beside me,” Dami appealed.
