Nigerian Rapper, Singer & Songwriter “Mohbad” graces our AOTW


Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (8 June 1996 – 12 September 2023), known professionally as MohBad, was a Nigerian rapper, singer and songwriter from Lagos. He was formerly signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Records and left the label in 2022. Tragically, On 12 September 2023, reports emerged of Mohbad’s death. He is survived by a son which he had with his Wife, Wunmi.

Four: Ponmo

Becoming his viral track from his debut EP album “Light”, “Ponmo” which featured Nigerias Best Artists, Naira Marley and lil Kesh was released on the 16th of October, 2020. This viral hit song garnered over 2.1M views on its official music video on YouTube, with the track produced by Studio Boss and written tbh Mohbad, Lil Kesh and Naira Marley.

Three: Peace

Produced by Rexxie, Mohbad’s track “Peace” got his peak in Turntable charts top 50 in 2021 and top 100, 2022. “Peace” which is a perfect blend of Hip-Hop and Amapiano sound was released on the 2nd of September, 2022. The official music video garnered over 13M views on YouTube. The song was written Mohbad.

Two: Ask About Me

Garnering over 3M views on its official music video on YouTube, “Ask About Me” which is a song by late artist “Mohbad” was released on the 14th of April, 2023. Produced by the award winning hit maker, Nektunez. Mohbad blends Amapiano perfectly with afrobeat and street rap genre. “Ask about me” was the first single from his EP.

Controversy: NDLEA arrest

In February 2022, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Mohbad, Zinoleesky and four other people following their possession of illegal substances (like MDMA and cannabis) at their home in Lekki, Lagos. Some viral videos on social media showed NDLEA operatives breaking into the musicians’ home in the Lekki district of Lagos State in the early hours of Thursday morning. According to witnesses, the officials carried out the arrest without any search warrants and mistreated the Marlian singers. The NDLEA officers were seen hitting the musicians with clubs and shooting into the air, forcing them into waiting trucks. Later, the NDLEA released Mohbad, Zinoleesky and 4 others.

With over 8.5M views on its official music video on YouTube, the track “Feel Good” was released on the 16th of July, 2021. The track “Feel Good” was produced Niphkeys and written by Mohbad.

Undeniably his biggest hit made, the official music video garnered over 10M views on YouTube”KPK” is a song by late artist Mohbad and Rexxie. The song was released on the 4th of December, 2020.
