THE Niger State Police Command said it has arrested a suspected armed robber, Henry Ishaya, 24, in the Ungwan Gwari area, Suleja Local Government Area of the state.

Our correspondent gathered that police operatives acted on distress calls that the suspect had been making life miserable for the people living in that area.

It was learnt that Ishaya had attacked and robbed one Yunusa Ibrahim of Emir Roundabout, Suleja, of the sum of N4,500.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, told Northern City News on Tuesday that operatives recovered from the suspect one wooden gun, one locally-made AK47 rifle, a military belt and jungle cap.

According to him, during the investigation, Ishaya confessed that he had been robbing people of their valuables for the past three years.

Ishaya told our correspondent that he took to crime in order to pay his sister’s school fees.

“Since my parents died, I have been struggling to pay my sister’s school fees. The menial job I had cannot sustain us not to talk of paying her school fees, that is my predicament,” the suspect stated.

The police said the suspect would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
