 Nelly Furtado the first Canadian musician to ever win a Latin Grammy. If you were a party rocker between 2006 and 2007, you def will remember she made one of the top-selling albums those years (her third album Loose was an instant hit) and even made the 22nd best-selling album of the 2000s. She’s got about 6 Albums out already.

 

Just imagine the fame and fortune Furtado has achieved starting out singing as a child who first time sang publicly in the church at the age of four with her mother during Portugal Day. It’s been a milestone. Though she appears not to be in the music scene this past year actually. Perhaps movies have been taking much of time right. I’m just saying. Nelly Kim Furtado was born on 2nd December 1978 (41) in Victoria, British Columbia raised in a Roman Catholic household by her was very musical parents are of Portuguese descent.  She sang in the church along with her mother at age 4. In 1997, Furtado started a trip-hop duo called Nelstar, the duo ultimately called it quits when Furtado felt the trip-hop genre didn’t let her show off her vocal abilities (Trip-hop genre is a kind of down-tempo music characterized by downtempo beats etc). Her big break came at 18 when Furtado entered a talent show for young female urban performers held in Toronto, the Honey Jam. Her performance caught the eye of the manager of the Philosopher Kings, a funk/pop group. Furtado then recorded a very impressive track and landed a record contract with DreamWorks Records her debut album Whoa Nelly! came through in 2000. The commercially successful spawned two top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100: “I’m Like a Bird” and “Turn Off the Light” both of which were also nominated for and even won the Grammy Awards.

 

In 2003, she released her second album, Folklore, which was preceded by the lead single, “Powerless (Say What You Want)”. Folklore wasn’t successful saleswise, but it still earned her a Juno award and 5 other nominations. In February 2014, 2014, Furtado has a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame and was awarded Commander of the Order of Prince Henry in Toronto by Aníbal Cavaco Silva, the former President of Portugal. The album spawned four successful number one singles; “Promiscuous”, “Maneater”, “Say It Right”, and “All Good Things (Come to an End)”. Nelly Furtado started her own label, Nelstar, in 2009 with Canadian label group, Last Gang Labels. released her first Spanish Language album Mi Plan, on the label in 2009. The album won her a Latin Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Album. , Nelstar record label also made two signings, Fritz Helder & The Phantoms in 2009 and Dylan Murray in 2010.

 

In 2012, Furtado released her fifth album, The Spirit Indestructible. In 2013, she embarked on a tour and in 2016. She appeared in a minor supporting role in the romantic comedy film A Date with Miss Fortune. That same year she began teasing new music via social media, suggesting that the album would have a connection to Dallas, Texas, where much of the album was recorded. Then later in July 2016, she released “Behind Your Back” exclusively on Spotify, describing the song as an “appetiser” for her next album. She finally released The Ride in March 2017 her sixth album

 

No 3 Promiscuous” featuring Timbaland Grammy-nominated song (Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals in 2007) won Billboard Music Awards in the category Pop 100 Single of the Year among other nominations in 2006

 

No 2 Sticks & Stones” was remixed by Metro with newly recorded vocals by Furtado in May 2018. It later reached number one on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.

 

Furtado has sold over 40 million records worldwide, making her one of the most successful Canadian artists. She has won several awards throughout her career, including one Grammy Award from seven nominations, one Latin Grammy Award, ten Juno Awards, one BRIT Award, one Billboard Music Award, one MTV Europe Music Award, one World Music Award, and three Much Music Video Awards.
