The Indonesian top-flight outfit are willing to listen to offers for the veteran midfielder after excluding him from their plans for the upcoming term

Following his exclusion from Persib Bandung’s squad for the new Liga 1 season, Michael Essien has been put up for sale.

Due to the Indonesian top-flight’s regulation that clubs can only register three foreign players, the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and AC Milan midfielder was left out of coach Mario Gomez setup, with Argentine new signing Jonathan Bauman preferred.

According to the club’s director, Glenn Sugita, talks are ongoing with foreign clubs to take the ex-Ghana international on loan or a permanent deal.

“From the legal side, Essien is still our player and we still give him his rights every month, but because there is a rule in League 1 related to the quota of foreign players, then there is one foreign player we can not use,” said Persib’s director Sugita.

“It’s all the coach’s decision because the coach knows more about which scheme and strategy he will use,” he added.

“We are also talking to foreign clubs whether they [want to buy or loan] and there are some who have communicated with us including agents but there is still nothing concrete.”
