A Zimbabwean man, Stanford Phiri’s habit of going to his former girlfriend’s house in the middle of the night to look for her and break down the door of her family’s home when refused entry has landed him in court.
The family revealed that although their daughter, Shelter Ncube, has dumped Phiri, he still continues with his bad behaviour, leaving the whole family in fear, reports iHarare.
According to reports, he would leave a trail of destruction such as broken burglar bars, windows and doors and the situation got to a point where Shelter’s uncle, Nkosizile Nkala, sought legal assistance to put a stop to it.
“We no longer have peace at home because of my niece’s boyfriend who comes to visit her in the middle of the night. Whenever we ignored him, he broke the burglar bar, door and window to forcibly get inside and see my niece,” said Nkala.
In his defence, Phiri said he struggled to control his temper and it worsened when he wanted to meet Ncube.
“I failed to control my temper when I got angry and that was the reason I behaved that way because I will be eager to see her,” he said.
“From today, I accept that she is no longer interested in me,” Phiri told the court.
The presiding magistrate, Tancy Dube, granted the order in the applicant’s favour and Phiri was instructed not to go to the applicant’s home, communicate and to be at peace with the applicant.
