Are you also aware that the more you scratch, the longer it will take for the itching to go away?

Anal itch is an irritating itchy sensation around the anus (the opening through which stool passes out of the body). Anal itch is an irritating sensation around the anus that is relieved temporarily by scratching or rubbing. It is medically known as pruritus ani. Worldwide, anal itch is a very common problem that occurs. Men are said to be more affected more often than women.

There is nothing as embarrassing as scratching your anus even if you try as much as possible to be discrete about the scratching, you are still have to look around to see if no one is watching. As a matter of fact people may be watching and they may not be watching you scratch your bum actually. Sometimes the urge to scratch becomes so unavoidable that some carefree ladies pretend to be adjusting their panties in the public while some dirty guys actually just have to scratch it. While you go through all these you fail to realize that no matter the urge to scratch, the itch will pass always go away or at least subdue in intensity, over a short time.  How right?  I will tell you shortly.

There are many underlying causes. Treatment with antibiotics that work against many different bacterial species can also trigger anal itch. If the anal area isn’t cleaned properly after using the toilet, a small amount of stool may be left behind on the skin, causing the area to itch. A diet containing foods or beverages can irritate the anus. For instance spicy foods, coffee (both caffeinated and decaffeinated), tea, cola, milk, alcoholic beverages (especially beer and wine), chocolate, citrus fruits, vitamin C tablets and tomatoes. Antibiotics like tetracycline and erythromycin.

Other major causes include feminine hygiene sprays and other deodorants for the area around the anus or genitals, medicated talcum powders, and medicated skin cleansers and soaps, especially perfumed soaps as well as some other medications intended to treat anal problems. Bacterial infections like yeast infections around the anus can cause itchy anus. Warts in the rectum can also be itchy. If you have itchy skin problems like dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis, your anus can also be affected. Sometimes there is no apparent cause.

Anal itch is a symptom, not an illness, and it can have many different causes. In most cases, a person with anal itch does not have a disease of the anus or rectum. Instead, the itchy sensation is a sign that one or more of the following has irritated the skin in the area. If anal itch becomes a chronic (long-term) problem, the skin around the anus may become raw and tender from repeated scratching, or it may thicken and become leathery. Repeated scratching also can cause breaks in the anal skin that can lead to painful local infections.

Try these out the next time you have anal area itches.
