It’s the #AOTW segment guys! We are spotlighting the Latin music’s rising star Bad Bunny today on the show! You don’t have to wonder who he is if you’re not a fan. I bet by the time we jam one of his songs you’ll realize you’ve been hearing his name everywhere. Bad Bunny is relatively new but appears as though he’s been around for quite a while. He’s been rising in fame since 2017, but really hit it big in 2018. He’s one of Latin music’s current hottest stars with a few key collaborations. Bad Bunny is a new Latin trap star.
Yeah definitely! Bad Bunny actually sings and raps with a “conversational tone”, employing “a low, slurry tone”. Bad Bunny has been garnering buzz. And speaking of collaboration, he’s teamed up with CardiB, Drake on “Mia” among other top notch artists. He also got nominated in the 2019 MTV VMA in August.
Bad Bunny whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio was born on March 10, 1994 (25), in Almirante Sur barrio in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. At the age of 5 years, he was singing in the church choir of his home town. By the time he reached high school, he was known for his gifted ability to perform on stage with solid skills at freestyling. Bad Bunny studied music and technology at the University of Puerto Rico and attained a degree in Audiovisual Communications.
Bad Bunny didn’t have it all growing up so at some point in his life he worked at a grocery store to help pay the costs for his recording sessions in the studio. He needed money to have his songs recorded professionally. So he had to work in a supermarket as a bagger while studying in the uni. Later on, Bad Bunny gained popularity on SoundCloud and he was signed to a record label. Subsequently, he had a breakthrough single followed by a number of hits.

Why does Bad Bunny wear nail polish though? In the video for his hit single, Estamos Bien, Bad Bunny is seen polishing his fingernails with a purple nail polish then blows them dry. Last year, he got vocal on social media after a nail salon in Spain, denied him service when he wanted to freshen his nails. He said “I just wanted to tell you all that I went to this sh**ty place to get my nails done (manicure + color) and they told me NO because I’m a MAN hahaha,” he wrote on Twitter. Isn’t this funny?
Moving on guys, the year 2017 was kinda interesting and eventful for Bad Bunny. He signed a booking deal with Cardenas Marketing Network (CMN) for several Latin American countries. He was also featured on a song by Becky G which was released in July 2017. He hosted Beats 1’s first Spanish-language show, Trap Kingz. In November 2017, Bad Bunny’s track, “Tu No Metes Cabra” peaked at number 38 on the Hot Latin Songs chart. In 2017, Bunny had collaborations with withJ Balvin, and Prince Royce, also the remix of “Te Boté” with Ozuna and Nicky Jam.
In 2018, Cardi B collaborated with Bad Bunny and J Balvin on the Billboard Hot 100 number-one single, “I Like It”. In the sing, he rapped in Spanish and English. “”I Like It” happened to be Bad Bunny’s first number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100. In October 2018, Bad Bunny released “Mia” together with Drake. Mia peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In November 2018, Bad Bunny released “Te Guste” with Jennifer Lopez, with a video directed by Mike Ho; finally Bad Bunny dropped his debut album, X 100pre on Christmas Eve in December 2018. The album hit #1 spot on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart—the “highest ranking debut,” according to Billboard. It was released after he had left “Hear this Music” record label. He’s barely 4 years in the industry but he’s got a number of hits, notable appearances, and collaborations with top notch artists in and out Puerto Rico his home country. When Bad Bunny released his debut album, he revealed on an Instagram live stream that he was never allowed to make an album. He also confessed that he actually produced his music by himself. So he joined Rimas Entertainment to release his debut album.
The song Afilando los cuchillos (meaning sharpening the knives) was released during the 2019 protests against Ricardo Rosselló with lyrics from him and Residente. He’s got another album out together with J Balvin. It was released recently. The new album, Oasis, is on number one on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart. He’s got several successful collaborations obviously.

– Bad Bunny got his stage name from embarrassing first-grade experience. While in school, he was forced to wear a hat made of tall bunny ears when he misbehaved which caused him to feel totally ashamed in front of his peers. When it came time to choose a stage name, he thought of the experience and came up with his official stage name of Bad Bunny.
– Since his breakthrough, he has earned multiple top-ten entries on the US Hot Latin Songs chart. Soy Peor – his breakthrough single established him as a forerunner in the Latin American trap scene. It reached #22 on the Hot Latin Songs chart at the time of release.
– In an interview with Billboard, Bad Bunny stated that his biggest music inspirations growing up were Héctor Lavoe, Vico C, Daddy Yankee and Marc Anthony.

– The song Chambea featuring Ric Flair (legendary wrestler) is the first highlight of his success in his career. Since his childhood, he has looked up to professional wrestling as one of his favorite sports. So he finally featured Ric Flair in the music video for Chambea.
