From Zimbabwe to South London to the World – The Daecolm Story

Daecolm is a Zimbabwean singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose music blends Afrobeats, Afro-house, Amapiano, and R&B. Born in Zimbabwe and raised in South London, he grew up surrounded by a variety of musical influences, many of which came from his father, who introduced him to artists such as Michael Jackson, TLC, Boyz II Men, and Blackstreet. These influences would later play a major role in shaping his sound. His journey into music began at a young age. By the age of 13, he had started learning piano and experimenting with songwriting. As a teenager, he recorded his own music and even had one of his songs played on radio, an experience that encouraged him to pursue music more seriously. Before finding success as a recording artist, Daecolm spent years working behind the scenes as a songwriter and producer. His writing credits include collaborations with major artists such as Chris Brown, Wizkid, Ayra Starr, Adekunle Gold, Ty Dolla $ign, Trey Songz, and Ella Mai. This reputation as a songwriter helped establish him within the industry long before many listeners became familiar with his name. Despite his growing popularity, Daecolm remains relatively private about his personal life. He rarely discusses his family or relationships publicly, preferring to keep the spotlight on his music and creative work. Much of his public image revolves around his artistry rather than his life away from the studio.

Four: Proud

Kicking off the list is “Proud,” released on November 6, 2020, one of Daecolm’s earliest notable releases and marked an important stage in his transition from songwriter and producer to recording artist. The song was released in collaboration with French DJ and producer Tchami, giving Daecolm an opportunity to showcase his vocals to a wider audience. Although “Proud” was not a major mainstream hit, the track still found a solid audience online, garnering over 6M streams Spotify streams and over 1.7M views on its official audio on YouTube. “Proud” offered an early indication of Daecolm’s strengths as a vocalist and songwriter. At the time, he was still primarily known for his work behind the scenes, making this release an important step in establishing his identity as an artist in his own right.

Looking back, the song captures a period of growth in Daecolm’s career. While newer fans may know him for global hits and high-profile collaborations, “Proud” serves as a reminder of the foundation he built before reaching mainstream recognition.

Three: Think Of Me

Coming in at number three is “Think Of Me,” a major collaboration between HUGEL, David Guetta, Kehlani, and Daecolm. Released on May 2, 2025, the track arrived as one of the most high-profile records Daecolm had been involved in since the global success of “I Adore You.”

Built around Afro-house production, “Think Of Me” combines rhythmic percussion, melodic dance elements, and emotionally driven vocals. The song explores themes of love, longing, and emotional attachment, centering on the question of whether someone continues to think about a past relationship after it has ended. This track has garnered over 51.7M streams on Spotify and over 4M views on its official audio on YouTube. One of the reasons the song attracted attention was its lineup. It marked Daecolm’s collaboration with internationally recognized artists David Guetta and Kehlani, while also reuniting him with HUGEL.
