Focalistic, South African rapper sits on our #AOTW

Lethabo Sebetso (born 26 May 1996), professionally known as Focalistic, is a South African rapper born and raised in Ga-Rankuwa, Pretoria. His father was the former political journalist working at SABC but in 2011, Focalistic lost his father to a car accident in his hometown when he was in Grade 9. Sebetso was a footballer prior to pursuing a music career as a rapper. In early 2020, he established his own record label 18 Area Holdings in partnership with The Vth Seasons where he released debut studio album Sgubhu Ses Excellent (2020). Focalistic has been releasing music consistently since his emergence circa 2017. He has collaborated with the likes of Davido, Cassper Nyovest, Emtee, Major League DJz among a few others.

 

Four – Blecke feat. JazziDisciples: Off the album Sghubu Ses Excellent, the video garnered 512k views on YouTube and featured JazziDisciples on the the track which was released in December 2020. The music video for ‘Blecke’ was directed by Morale Pablo Phala for Clout Cassette Production.

 

Three – 16 days no sleep: Garnered 1.2m views on its official video on YouTube, the track  was off the album “President Ya Straata” and had DJ Maphorisa, Mellow & Sleezy.

 

FYI: He holds a degree in Political Science obtained from the prestigious University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2017. Focalistic began music professionally in 2017 and describes his kind of music as “Pina tsa Ko Kasi” which sees the singer infusing his hip hop rots with Amapiano. He does not consider himself as a rapper but as one who just enjoy making music. There was a rumor that Focalistic is dating a South African musician, Kamo Mphela which she responded by saying they’re just very close friends and nothing more. There’s also another rumor of him being in a serious relationship with DBN Gogo but it is not confirmed yet.

 

Two – Champion Sound with DavidoDMW super star Davido teamed up with the king of Amapiano so to say to deliver this song which Garnered 16M views on its official video on YouTube and is released on the 19th November, 2021. This marked their second collaboration together and on the 5th of March 2022, Focalistic performed at 02 Arena in London alongside with Davido. The song was Produced by Amapiano heavyweights CaltonicSA and Tee Jay and the music video directed by British-born director Dalia Dias who showed off all that London has to offer.

One – Ke Star (remix): The official video Garnered 20m views on YouTube.  In February 19, 2021, his remix “Ke Star”, featuring Davido and Virgo Deep was released globally and was certified gold with sales of 25 000 copies. The single received enormous international success and charted at number 16 on Billboard Top Triller Global chart in the U.S. The song was nominated for Amapiano Song of the Year, Best Amapiano Video and Best Amapiano song at the first ceremony of the South African Music awards in 2021. As stated earlier, he won Best collaboration for the African Muzik Magazine Awards.
