Shawarma is a traditional Turkish and Iran street meal, which has already become very popular on the whole planet.

Nigeria is not an exception. Shawarma can be served as a sandwich or wrap, or on a plate.  This dish is often eaten with fattoush, tabbouleh, tomato, and cucumber. Among the most popular toppings, there are tahini sauce, pickled turnips, hummus, etc.

Shawarma History.

Shawarma is a Levantine Arab meat preparation, where lamb, chicken, turkey, beef, veal, or mixed meats are placed on a spit and may be grilled for as long as a day. … Shawarma can be served on a plate (generally with accompaniments), or as a sandwich or wrap.

Nigerians like plenty of shawarma recipes. However, today we are going to share one of the most popular shawarma recipes in Nigeria. We are going to make chicken shawarma.

To make chicken shawarma, you will need the following ingredients:

Garlic powder – 1/2 tablespoon

Olive oil – 2 tablespoon

Nutmeg – 1/4 tablespoon

Cinnamon – 1/2 tablespoon

Cardamom – 1 tablespoon

Paprika – 1 tablespoon

Salt – 1 tablespoon

Boneless skinless stripped chicken – 1 kilogram

How to make shawarma sauce? First, you make shawarma sauce. The tahini sauce suits the best for the traditional chicken shawarma.

Ingredients:

Two medium garlic cloves

Two tablespoons of lemon juice

Milk yogurt

Salt

½ cup of tahini

Two tablespoons of olive oil

It is easy to make the tahini sauce. You need to mix garlic with lemon juice in a medium bowl. Then let it sit for above five minutes. After it, blend the tahini, yogurt, olive oil, and a teaspoon of salt until the mixture is smooth enough.
