The Council of State which sat today at the State House in Abuja, approved N27,000 New minimum wage for states, while Federal Government workers will take home N30,000 as their minimum wage.

This amount is for the least paid workers in the states and the private sector, and Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige, who just confirmed the development to State House Correspondents in Abuja, said a bill would be sent to the National Assembly latest on Wednesday (tomorrow).

The amount approved by the Council of State is N3,000 short of the N30,000 that the Tripartite Committee on Review of National Minimum Wage recommended.

The National Council of State which is meeting for past and present Nigerian leaders, had former presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Olusegun Obasanjo, Ernest Shonekan, former military leader Abdulsalim Abubakar amongst others in attendance.
