Colombian-American singer and songwriter ‘Kali Uchis’ graces our #AOTW

Karly-Marina Loaiza (born July 17, 1994), known professionally as Kali Uchis is a Colombian-American singer and songwriter born in  Alexandria, Virginia. She is the only child from her mother and father although she has step siblings from her mother’s side who had a previous marriage. In high school, Loaiza learned to play piano and saxophone. She participated in a jazz band, before her graduation from T. C. Williams High School (renamed Alexandria City High School).

Lottery” is a song by American singer Kali Uchis. It was released as a single from her debut EP, Por Vida on the 13th of January,2015. The official music video garnered over 4.4M views on YouTube. It was written by Kali herself, Alex Epton, Kenneth Gold and Michael Deene and produced by Alex Epton.

Currently: She just currently dropped her recent album “Red Moon in Venus (2023)”  which was released on the 3rd of March, 2023. Kali also announced that sh would be going on tour accompanied by fellow artist RAYE. The tour is to begin on April 25, 2023 in Austin, Texas and conclude on May 30, 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona.

“Telepatía” is a song by American singer Kali Uchis. It became the album’s third single on February 26, 2021, after gaining prominence on the social media platform TikTok. The song went on to win Favorite Latin Song at the 2021 American Music Awards.

Two: I Wish You Roses

“I Wish You Roses” is a song by American singer Kali Uchis, and was produced by Dylan Wiggins and Josh Crocker. The song was released on January 19, 2023, through Geffen Records, with a music video released alongside. The song is the lead single of her third studio album, Red Moon in Venus (2023). The official music video was released on the same day as the song released, and was directed by Cho Gi-Seok which garnered over 4M views on YouTube. It peaked at the number 81 spot on US Billboard Hot 100 and 28 on US Billboard Hot R&B/ Hip-Hop Songs.

  • She was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards for “Get You”, her collaboration with Canadian singer Daniel Caesar.
  • In October 2017, Uchis was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Record of the Year for “El Ratico”, her collaboration with Colombian musician Juanes.
  • The song  “TELEPATIA” went on to win Favorite Latin Song at the 2021 American Music Awards. It also won the category for winning Songwriters at the 2022 ASCAP Pop Music Awards. In 2021, it was won the category for Best Alternative/Rock/Indie Song at the  Premios Nuestra Tierra Awards.

“After the Storm” is a song by American singer Kali Uchis featuring American rapper Tyler, the Creator and fellow American singer Bootsy Collins. It was released on January 12, 2018, by Virgin EMI Records and Interscope Records, as the third single from Uchis’ debut studio album, Isolation. It garnered over 115M views on its official video on YouTube. On April 15, 2018, Uchis performed the song during her set at Coachella with Tyler, the Creator.

A song by Kaytranada which featured singer Kali Uchis, which was released on December 9, 2019. This is arguably her biggest hit so far. She won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for her feature on Kaytranada’s single “10%”. It garnered over 11M views on YouTube.
