Bus passenger hits crying toddler on the head in ‘shocking incident’ as police launch manhunt

A manhunt has been launched to find the yob who hit a crying baby girl on a bus in Luton.

 

Bedfordshire Police have released CCTV images of a man in a red hoodie and headphones to find who carried out the “shocking” assault.

 

A man hit the 19-month-old baby on the back of her head and shouted at her, police said.

 

A spokesperson for the force said they need to speak to a man “in relation to the assault of a child” on Tuesday afternoon.

 

They said the baby was in her buggy while her mum was next to her on the 29 bus from Luton town centre to St Margaret’s Avenue when the horrific assualt happened.

 

The man in the CCTV images is wearing a dark red hoodie, grey trousers, black headphones and a backpack.

 

He is described as being white with short, light brown hair.

PC Carolyn Hoare, investigating, said: “This is a truly shocking incident where a baby was assaulted on a bus in broad daylight. We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour in our county.

 

“We are asking the man pictured in the CCTV images, or anyone who recognises him, to come forward as we believe he could help us with our enquiries. If anyone witnessed the incident, please get in touch.”

 

 

The spokesperson said in a statement: “We have issued CCTV images of a man officers would like to speak to in relation to the assault of a child.

“The incident took place on Tuesday, February 4, at around 2.50pm, on the number 29 bus from Luton town centre to St Margaret’s Avenue.
