Spotlight on the British rapper, singer, and songwriter Stefflon Don on the #AOTW today! She appears to have been riding the music wave in recent times especially since towards the end of 2018. Kicking off 2019, she dominated the news in regards to the confirmation of her romantic relationship with Afrobeats star, Burna Boy through Instagram status.

It’s interesting last year the Britain-born lyricist was one of many U.K. hip-hop artists that made waves in the U.S. even though, it was reported earlier in 2018 (February) that she would probably be pursuing a career in comedy.  She just has a weird obsession with ice of all things like wild ride showing no sign of stopping.

Moving on to her early life now, Stephanie Victoria Allen as Stefflon Don known as Stefflon Don was born on 14th December 1991 (27) born in Birmingham, England. When she was five years old, her family moved to Rotterdam, Netherlands, (hence Don speaks fluent Dutch) but at the age of fourteen, she returned to Britain to study at a London school.  Stefflon Don is reported to have been singing and writing music since elementary school. At the age of 9, she recorded a “Hard Knock Life” hook for a rapper called Unique. The song was never released but she was surprised to hear her voice on the playback.

However, Stefflon Don first surfaced in 2015 by releasing a cover of Wretch 32’s “Six Words,” as well as being featured on certain tracks. She made her first appearance on an American song with the track “London” by singer Jeremih and was later featured on Lil Yachty’s “Better” from the album Teenage Emotions. On 16 December 2016, Don released her first mixtape titled Real Ting.

In 2016 she released her debut mixtape, Real Ting, which featured Jeremih returning the favor as a guest artist. In the spring of 2017, Don was signed to 54 London, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group that was created just for her. She was highlighted on the BBC’s Sound of 2017 list.

‘Real Ting’ remix ft Giggs (in early 2017- video has amassed over 2.5 million views so far!)

She kicked off 2018 with the release of the Hurtin’ Me EP (Polydor), which featured “Instruction” with Jax Jones and Demi Lovato, as well as the U.K. Top Ten title track.

FACTS

No album yet but she’s working on it. So far, the rapper has released one mixtape – 2016’s ‘Real Ting’ mixtape – and 2018’s ‘Hurtin’ Me – The EP’.

On comparison with Nicki Minaj: She’s been hailed as the UK’s answer to Nicki Minaj a few times. She said “People have tried to make comparisons but there isn’t really anyone that compares (to me),” she told Notion magazine in 2017. “Everyone has musical influences but I’m still me.”

Stefflon Don took to her Instagram page with a caption “Relax guys he ain’t yet but that’s bae,” she wrote. That was after  Burnaboy had previously shared a video of himself shirtless with Stefflon who was fast asleep showing that they weren’t in on any stunt captioning the video with love Emojis.

However, Burna boy has made known during an interview in US in March 2019 saying “On a more serious note, that’s my wifey. If you wanted a wifey, she’s like the most perfect person with that perfect description. Unfortunately, she’s mine now…”

Basically, she was born in Birmingham, raised in Holland, grew up in London.  Before her career in music, she worked as a cake decorator and hairdresser. Steff gave birth to her son when she was 17 years old.

“Hurtin’ Me” featuring French Montana (peaked at number 7 on the UK Singles Chart in…). Her biggest single with over 43 million views on YouTube!
