Beyoncé Stayed Seated During Joaquin Phoenix’s Standing Ovation

You might have missed Beyoncé at the Golden Globes last night if you weren’t looking hard enough.

The superstar skipped the red carpet arrivals and was later seen standing in the back of the venue with husband Jay-Z before they took their seats mid-ceremony. Viewers were lucky enough to get flashes of her reactions here and there during the broadcast, but for the most part, she tried to stay under the

radar. That was until Joaquin Phoenix won.

When the actor claimed his award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his role in Joker, the crowd responded with a standing ovation; but Beyoncé was spotted sitting down. It was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, and the reason for her sitting was unclear, but it was enough to get Twitter talking.

Some praised her for presumably protesting his win, others scolded her for disrespecting the actor, and some explained that the singer was presumably sitting because her custom Schiaparelli couture gown, which had massive shoulder details, would have blocked the view. The reactions

were mixd to say the least.
