Australian Open 2019: Serena Williams bonces back, defeats world’s number one, Simona Halep

Serena Williams has defeated World number one Simona Halep to qualify for the quarter-final of the Australian Open 2019.

Serena defeated Halep 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in the closely fought encounter on Monday.

The 37-year-old American dismantled Halep’s game to race through the opening set in 20 minutes.

Serena hopes to win the Australian Open to increase her Grand Slam titles to 24 from the current 23.

“It was an intense match and there were some incredible points, but I love being here,” she told the press.
