We profile #theboxshowafrica’s top 4 songs of January – June 2019. These Nigerian songs made mad waves during the first half of the year.

 

4. OYI by 2baba ft hi-idibia: 2face kicked off 2019 with the song OYI featuring his younger brother Hi – IdibiqThe song is a mid-tempo song and was produced by POJBeatz and the visuals was directed by unlimited LA.

 

 

3.  DUMEBI by Rema: Rema gained prominence In 2019 when he signed a record deal with Jonzing World (a new imprint under Mavins Records). And released the song Dumebi off his Rema EP. The visuals to the song was released in may 2019. Rema once said in an interview that the song wasn’t planned neither was it mixed and mastered. In his words “we just went with flow, we just vibed”.

 

 

2. JEALOUS by Fireboy DML: The song was released off the YBNL Mafia album in December 2018, the song was first heard in the video for Olamide’s ‘Woske’. That snippet was enough to send many looking for the song. The song gain mainstream popularity in 2019 and as since put fireboy on the road to stardom. He currently released a new song titled “what if i say” to help secure his stay in the Nigerian music scene. Jealous was produced by cracker mallo and the video was released in march with 22k views so far!

 

 

1. ‘KILLING DEM’ by Burna Boy & Zlatan: Released in December 2018 though. The song has been one of the hottest songs in Nigeria for 2019. Two of the country’s hottest artists got into the studio and the result was the amazing jam ‘Killing Dem’, the song was produced by Kel’ P and video as an amazing  9.6million views and still counting. Burnaboy performed the song at both coachella and the BET awards after party(after winning best international act).
