American Rapper Kendrick Lemar Becomes First Rapper To Win The Honorary Pulitzer Prize

American rapper and multiple Grammy winner Kendrick Lemar is adding another accolade to his name as he wins a Pulitzer prize for his 2017 album ‘Damn’.

The rapper was on Monday, April 16th announced as the recipient of the 2018 Pulitzer prize for music.

The names of the honorees were reeled out at the Columbia School of Journalism, New York.

Damn is Lamar’s fourth studio album and was released in April 2017. Lamar’s politically charged performance at the Grammy Awards in January won him wide praise.

Damn picked up best rap album at the award show. His song “Humble” also picked up best rap performance, best rap song, and best music video.

Praising Lamar’s ‘Damn’ for its social relevance, the Pulitzer Prize described the album as “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life”.

‘Damn’, a critically acclaimed and commercially successful album, was nominated for multiple Grammy awards, winning best rap album.
