The Rossoneri have had a shocking start to the season after splashing the cash in the summer. Vincenzo Montella has been given the boot after a poor run of form this season They lie seventh in Serie A after drawing 0-0 at home to mid-table Torino at the weekend. That meant the Rossoneri have now gone four home league games without hitting the back of the net.

It was only the third time in the club’s history that this had happened and is a run which has seen them fall 18 points behind Serie A leaders Napoli. It is not yet known if Gattuso’s appointment is on a temporary or long-term basis. Milan finished sixth in Serie A last season, a point and a place above rivals Inter. The club signaled their intent to really go for it this season with 11 major signings.

Newcomers included Leonardo Bonucci, Nikola Kalinic, Andre Silva and Andrea Conti, but results have not justified the investment. Striker Kalinic is definitely part of the problem, only having scored once in his last 11 outings. Nikola Kalinic has failed to live up to expectations

Milan fans are quickly losing patience with him, something that he chose to address on social media after the result. “Rossoneri fans, don’t stop supporting us,” the Croatian wrote on Instagram.

Former Milan captain Gattuso, 39, made over 400 appearances for the Italian giants and was in charge of the club’s youth team this season. Milan take on Benevento on Sunday.
