There was a heavy presence of security men at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Bauchi State on Friday.

Our correspondent observed that an Armoured Personnel Carrier was stationed at the entrance to the street leading to the office.

The street also leads to the offices of Bauchi State Inland Revenue Services and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

At the main entrance to the INEC’s office, security men frisked those going into the premises.

Distribution of materials to Election Domestic Observers was ongoing when our correspondent visited.

The INEC’s officials on duty were crowded by the observers before they were asked to return to their seats.

Armed policemen under Special Protection Unit were also on the ground.

However, distribution of sensitive materials had yet to begin when our correspondent visited the Central Bank of Nigeria, Bauchi Branch as of 3:20 pm.

Our correspondent observed that the INEC distribution vehicles were still on the premises.

But an Armoured Personnel Carrier was stationed at the entrance of the building too.

An official who spoke under the condition of anonymity said the distribution was delayed because a consignment was still being expected from Kano State.

“We have not commenced distribution, you appear to be the first to arrive,” he said.

No vehicle carrying sensitive materials was seen leaving the premises until the time our correspondent left the place.
