As a short recap from the last tip off segment, Hyperpigmentation is a condition that causes your skin to darken. This can affect patches of your skin or your entire body. Age spots, also called liver spots, are a common type of hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation is usually harmless but can sometimes be caused by an underlying medical condition which like I said earlier can cause the skin to darken. So, let’s dive down to some home remedies for hyperpigmentation.

Pigmentation treatment at home

There are several ways that you can treat hyperpigmentation at home. Some research suggests these ingredients I’m about to list out can work on skin pigmentation.

Apple cider vinegar: Apple cider vinegar a contains acetic acid, which research shows may lighten pigmentation. This is easily accessible to anyone which is the best part and to use this remedy according to an article by HEALTHLINE published on the 6th of December, 2018 is to combine equal parts of the apple cider vinegar and water in a container, then apply to the dark patches and leave on for two to three minutes, rinse with lukewarm water and repeat twice daily until you achieve the results you desire.

Aloe vera: Aloe vera contains aloin, a natural depigmenting compound that has been shown to lighten skin and work effectively as a nontoxic hyperpigmentation treatment, according to a 2012 study. To use this simply apply the aloe vera gel onto the pigmented areas before going to bed then rinse off using warm water the next morning. Do this consistently till you achieve the results you want.

Milk: Milk, buttermilk, and even sour milk have all been shown from time past to effectively lighten skin discoloration. Lactic acid is the ingredient responsible for this effect. To use, you have to soak a cotton ball in the milk, rub it over the darken patches twice a day. Do this daily until you see results.

Keep hands off dark spots: Finally, as tempting as it may be to touch the spots, or scratch, or squeeze a certain blackhead, remember not to pick. Its advisable to keep your hands off the spots as scratching the spot will only increase the inflammation responsible for the skin discolouration. The more you keep picking at it, the worse it becomes.

Note; if you notice that most of all the home remedies are not working effectively as you’d like them to, please take  time out to visit a dermatologist. This might be a cause of other skin problems or underlying health conditions.
