Today on the #AOTW, we spotlight hiphop artists whose songs have been rated Highest-Charting in the 2019 top 40 of the Billboard hot 100. They are artist whose songs have made the #1 spot in the 2019 top 40 of the Billboard hot 100. This music encompasses the 2019 songs as well as songs from years past. I mean as long as good music is churned out fans will always jam to it regardless of when the song is released. Music never goes out of listening even when everything else goes bad. According to wikipedia.org, there are about 30 artists whose songs have made it to the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019. Basically, we are looking all the artists who have STRICTLY peaked at the #1 position. They are our #AOTW on the show today.
Absolutely! Some of the artists in the top 40 list songs and albums appear more than once. For instance Postmalone’s Hollywood’s Bleeding the album appears 12 times featuring various artists. Cardi B’s songs appear about three times with album titles in TBAs “To Be Announced” later. Also, Lizzo’s two different albums, YoungThug, Kanye West, DJ Khalid, Drake, Nickki Minaj appear at least twice. All of these artists peaking at different positions in the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100.
There are about 6 #AOTW today in total and they are as follows: Post Malone with the song “Circles”, Travis Scott with the song “Highest in the Room”, Lil Nas X with the song “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, Post Malone and Swae Lee with the song “Sunflower”. Finally, Lizzo with the song “Truth Hurts”. The 4 main #AOTW are Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Travis Scott and Post Malone. Swae Lee will come as collaborating artist. Billy Ray Cyrus will also appear as a feature in one of the Post Malone’s as a bonus track.
That’s right! Clearly many of the artists in the highest charting song this year 2019 have been around for long making music worth hearing! They have many singles, albums, collaborations to their names. A few others on the list have not been doing music for long are also there: speaking of Cardi B (became more famous in 2016), also the late Juice Wurld – a 21 old who died this month on 8th December. He only started gaining attention in mid-2017). May his soul RIP! Even Lizzo is relatively new.

By the way Lizzo is the only lady on the #AOTW today. She’s on the #1 spot in the highest ranking artist in 2019 on the Billboard hot 100. Lizzo has been in the news lately for clinching the Grammys. Born Melissa Viviane Jefferson in April 27, 1988 but professionally called Lizzo – she is an American singer, rapper and songwriter and an incredible flute player as well. Lizzo had once thought flute would become her career. Lizzo got her start singing while going on walks and blasting B-Day by Beyonce. When she realized she wanted to pursue a career singing, she found a band…on Craigslist (according to musicinminnesota.com) She began her career as a recording artist in Minneapolis. Lizzo released two studio albums—Lizzobangers in 2013 and Big Grrrl Small World 2015.
Lizzo’s first major-label EP, Coconut Oil, was released in 2016. In 2019, she attained mainstream success with the release of her third studio album, Cuz I Love You. The album spawned two singles: “Juice” and “Tempo”. The deluxe version of the album included Lizzo’s 2017 single “Truth Hurts”, which is now a hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 two years after its initial release. She is also an actress. Such a head boxing song from beautiful Lizzo! That song was originally released in September in 2017 by Nice Life Recording Company and Atlantic Records, but then re-released as a radio single. Lizzo was recently nominated for Best New Artist in 2019 at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards which is scheduled for January 26, 2020 in LA.
Clearly y’all can understand that the songs which have been rated Highest-Charting in the 2019 top 40 of the Billboard hot 100 are not just of 2019, they are some of them are songs from any year in the past. Good music will always keep getting great listenership even when everything else does not interest people. Y’all know we are quite big when it comes to figure 4 so let me chip in real quick that, on the list of the highest charting songs in 2019 so far, there are about 10 artists in the top 4 category.
They include: Post Malone, Travis Scott, Lil Nas, Swae Lee, Lizzo, Cardi B, Bruno Mars, J. Cole, and Lil Tecca (9 in total). The artists in the mention peaked between 1st and 4th positions. From 5th downward, there is Cardi B’s “Please Me”peaking at #3, Kanye (Jesus Is King) and Drake (featuring Rick Ross “Money in the Grave”) peaking at #7 position, Juice Wrld (and YoungBoy Never Broke Again) peaking at 10th position amongst others all the way to the 40th positions. We got Lil Nas X on #3 spot. The 20 year is American rapper, singer and songwriter born Montero Lamar Hill on April 9th 1999 is known professionally as Lil Nas X. He came to international attention for his country rap single “Old Town Road”, which first achieved viral popularity on the micro-platform video sharing app TikTok in early 2019, and was Diamond Certified earlier November. The song reached #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and remained there for nineteen weeks, the longest for a song since the chart started in 1958
In June 2019, Nas X came out as gay, the only artist ever to have done so while having a number-one record. Old Town Road” clinched two MTV Video Music Awards including Song of the Year; the American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Song. He has been nominated for six Grammy Awards, the most for any male in 2019, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year and Best New Artist. His debut EP, 7, was released in June 2019 with its second single, “Panini”.
He features Billy Ray Cyrus (58) an American singer-songwriter and actor in the song. Billy who known for his number one single”Achy Breaky Heart” his first single ever to achieve triple platinum status in Australia also has 16 studio albums and 53 singles since 1992.

Travis Scott (28) Jacques Berman Webster II was born on April 30th 1992. He’s also an American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer. Sometime ago on the show when we talked about him, I said he had about 5 albums: 4 studio and would soon drop another collaborative album this year. So he finally (about to drop) dropped Jack Boys (with Cactus Jack) this December 2019 “Highest in the Room” was released as a single on October 4, 2019. It debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Scott’s second US number-one single. The song was first used in Scott’s then girlfriend Kylie Jenner’s “Kybrows” commercial on April 29,
The American rapper, singer and songwriter PM was born Austin Richard Post on July 4th 1995. He has gained acclaim for blending musical genres including pop, hip hop, trap, and rock, his introspective songwriting, and his laconic vocal style has stood him out. Hes’ been described as being versatile.He’s got three studio albums outStoney (2016), Beerbongs & Bentleys (2018) and Hollywood’s Bleeding (2019)

The music video to the song was released on September 3, 2019 and reached #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 for the week of November 30, 2019, and stayed at number one on the next week, marking Post Malone’s fourth number-one song. It is his second Hot 100 number one of 2019, following “Sunflower” with Swae Lee, which led the chart in January.
