10 things you should know about the late Sound Sultan

Nigeria and indeed the African entertainment industry lost a super-talented icon. The news broke on Sunday July 11, 2021, that Sound Sultan had died of complications from Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma in the throat.

 

It was reported on May 12, 2021, that Sound Sultan was somewhere in the USA receiving chemotherapy.

 

Here are 10 things you should know about Sound Sultan:

1. He was born on November 27, 1976 and died on July 11, 2021

2. His early influence and experience is attributed to his older brother Baba Dee who studied theatre arts

3. His first single “Jagbajantis”, released in 2000, was sort of, a national anthem

4. He was first signed to Kennis Music before leaving (after his contract expired) to start with his brother Baba Dee, Naija Ninjas, a parent organization for a record label, production outfit and clothing line

5. In 2009, he married his long-term girlfriend Chichi Morah, now known as Farida Fasasi

6. He has three children

7. He released a total of 7 albums during his lifetime

8. In 2012, it was announced that Sound Sultan was made a UN Ambassador for Peace for his exemplary lifestyle and care

9. In 2015, Sound Sultan released the rap single “Remember” after a long absence from the music scene.

10. After the fallout of the African Basketball League, Sound Sultan joined forces with the organizers of the Continental Basketball League to become a team owner of Lagos City Stars (the 2017 champions) and a facilitator of the league entertainment.

 

Sound Sultan and his tunes will be greatly remembered. RIP to a legend!
