Simon Cowell has revealed the real reason he suffered a fall as he vowed to take better care of himself for the sake of his son Eric. The music mogul was forced to miss the first X Factor live shows this weekend after he fainted and fell down the stairs at his home.
The X Factor supremo, 58, has now revealed that his fainting spell was actually caused by low blood pressure. And he’s promising to change his lifestyle to ensure that he’s around to support three-year-old Eric for a long time. He told The Sun: “Sometimes we get a reminder that we’re not invincible and this was certainly mine. It was a huge shock. “They think I fainted because I had low blood pressure and so I have got to really take good care of myself to sort that out.
“After all I am a dad and have more responsibility than ever.” Simon also revealed how he came about his accident, saying that he’d been feeling a little under the weather and had gone to get some hot milk when he started feeling dizzy as he was walking back up the stairs to bed. He said that the next thing he remembers is paramedics putting a neck brace on him and having a terrible headache. Simon admitted that he was worried about the damage that he’d caused himself n the fall but says he’s on the mend now and feels “very lucky” that he didn’t hurt himself more seriously, saying it could have been “a lot worse”.
Simon also praised the hospital staff who cared for him. He was absent from the ITV show last night, but Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon stepped in tonight to fill in for him. She joined Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne on the panel as the Overs and the Groups performed live for the first time. Simon had to be treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for scans of his brain, neck, spine and back after falling down his stairs while going to make a hot milk.
His security guards were alerted by the noise of his fall and found him unconscious at the bottom of his staircase.
After his MRI and CT scans, Simon was discharged and made his way back home – although he looked drawn and tired as he returned back to his London house wearing a blood pressure monitor. Thankfully now he’s on the mend.
