Bae is coming around. Then you remember at the last minute that you need a little bit of shaving down there. It makes sense to quickly dash into the bathroom, give yourself a quick shave and problem solved. But as it turns out, this can be more harmful than you realize.
Shaving your pubic hair right before sex is not recommended for a couple of reasons.
Sensitive skin
Your skin becomes extra sensitive after a shave and it needs some time to calm down. After shaving, your skin is also more prone to ingrown hair so any friction caused during intercourse can cause irritation. You can also prevent skin irritation after shaving by wearing loose clothing to air out the area. Anything that rubs against your vagina right after shaving can make you uncomfortable, itchy and can even cause bumps.
Remember that your pubic hair acts as a barrier and without it, you can make yourself more susceptible to infections, including STDs. So if you plan on going completely bald, it is safer to give yourself a day or two for a little bit of hair to grow back to protect your genitals. Also, keep in mind that you can experience little nicks and cuts while shaving. These are technically open wounds and this type of exposure can make it easy for all kinds of germs and bacteria to find their way into your body, thereby increasing the chances of infections as well.
So the lesson here is simple. No matter how much you want to ‘freshen up’ for your partner, be sure to do this particular pre-sex ritual at least a day before you get down to business. And if you forget until the last minute, remember that having sex with a little more hair down there is much safer than shaving right before.
