Manchester United star Marcos Rojo is likely to be sold as the club prepare a world record move for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly. The Argentine has featured just twice so far this term and was sent home from United’s training camp in Dubai as he struggles with ongoing fitness issues. Jose Mourinho was furious with his board’s failure to sign an experienced centre-back last summer and United have conceded an alarming 32 goals already so far this term. Koulibaly is United’s priority target and the club had hoped to make a move this month but Napoli have shown little appetite to entertain any offers
United will make an approach for the Senegal international this summer but they’ll likely have to break the world record £75m that Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk to get their man. Rojo attracted attention from Everton and Wolves last summer and United could free up funds – and space on the wage bill – by selling him off. It could prove difficult to sell him this month given his injury issues and the Argentine’s wages are likely to prove a stumbling block for many suitors.
United’s defending has improved since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment and Victor Lindelof has emerged as the club’s first choice centre-back. Phil Jones has partnered the Swede but the board are clear that the want a centre-back partner for Lindelof, who they believe will develop into a top class defender.
