Liverpool have made contact with Paris Saint-Germain in the last 48 hours about signing Adrien Rabiot before the close of transfer window, reports say. Clubs must conclude their transfer business by 11pm tonight and Liverpool could yet make a surprise signing. Rabiot is being tracked by a host of clubs, including Barcelona and Tottenham, after making it clear he would be signing a new deal at PSG.
Spanish publication Sport claim PSG want to offload Rabiot this month rather than lose the midfielder for nothing in the summer. PSG’s eagerness to cash in on Rabiot has prompted Liverpool and Tottenham to get in touch about a January deal. However, while Liverpool and Spurs are poised to make an offer, Rabiot has little interest in moving club this month.
Rabiot is keen on a switch to Barcelona, but the Catalan giants have cooled their interest in the Frenchman. Barcelona confirmed this month Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong will arrive at the club in the summer. The pursuit of Rabiot has been shelved as a result, leaving Liverpool and Tottenham as the frontrunners.
Either Premier League club would be happy to wait until the summer, but are open to finalising a deal for Rabiot before the window slams shut. A move to England does attract Rabiot, but it is believed the 23-year-old would only be interested in a switch to Anfield to play under Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points on Wednesday night, but are not expected to make any signings before the transfer window closes as Klopp insists he is happy with his current options.
