Torino midfielder Joel Obi is set to return to the Super Eagles fold in preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
According to Complete Sports, Joel is expected to be on Gernot Rohr’s list for the upcoming friendly matches against Serbia and Poland in March.
Joel invitation will come four years after his last call up to the national team, as his last game for the Super Eagles came in a friendly game in 2014 against Scotland.
The left footed midfielder was in action from the start for his club side in a Serie A fixture against defending champions Juventus which they lost 0 – 1.
Complete sports report that a top source said, “He (Joel Obi) brings a different dimension to the team. We saw the Super Eagles play a different system against Argentina and that’s part of the dynamism Rohr is hoping his side can evolve into before the World Cup.”
Joel has made a total of 17 appearances for Torino in the league this season and has contributed four goals.
The 26-year-old has only played in the Italian Serie A for Inter Milan, Parma and Torino, he has made a total of 15 appearances for the Super Eagles and is yet to register a goal.
Nigeria will take on Poland in Wroclaw on March 23, and face Serbia in England on March 27.
The Super Eagles group opponents for the 2018 FIFA World Cup are Croatia, Argentina and Iceland.
