We may tilt a little bit on the Nigerian music industry because #ThisIsNigeria. Plus the Nigerian Music industry started off on a good note with artist tailoring their music to accommodate the shaku shaku danc speaking #Wo by Olamide, Kiss daniel new record label “FLY BOI” drama in January plus album drops from many Nigerian/African acts fulfilling promise to fans even though we are still expecting albums from some a listers…making all look like there are more chart toper singles than albums in 2018 with the expectation that they are on the way
Absolutely! Totally agree with you. This reminds me of the assumption that music fans in prefer of-the-moment singles than albums. Do you think this in any way affect the rate at which artists in general put in the effort to release albums compared to the rate at which they release singles (mixtapes/EPs may be)
H-Kayne & Khaoula – Do What You Can’t (Exclusive Music Video)
Talking bangers being served across board from a list of hit makers from the continent of Africa: West to East to South Africa (Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Morocco…name it) Wait! North Africa is rarely talked about when it come music reason being that celebrating hip hop and rap with an awards show is a new concept in Morocco. The musical scene in Morocco depends on which region of the country you visit
Being one of the pioneers of the Rap in Morocco, H-kayne was among a fusion of artists. H-kayne is the association of a group of Rappeur S Moroccans. The formation is made up of: Adil, Azeddine, Othman and Hicham-He met DJ Khalid and formed the group. They’ve gained first place in the category of the Rap and Hip-Hop contest Boulevard of the young musicians.
I know a couple of North African hiphop artists ((North Africa -morocco) who won the 2017 Afrima awards: Ibitssam Tiskat – Menak Wla Meni vs Shayfeen – Wach Kayn Wader (Both won 2017 AFRIMA Awards: Best Female and Best Male)
Going back to your question now! I think A listers have their ways of sustaining the interest of their fans with their singles till the time they release new album. But that should not in any way nullify the works of those who have released albums/Eps or mixtapes so far. It’s just it has become a tradition referencing A-list artists because their songs are always at the top level (Wizkid, Davido, Tekno, Tiwa Savage etc) who are yet to release a full album in 2018 because their names have featured in talking points both domestically and internationally.
Diamond Platnumz – ‘Iyena’ Feat. Rayvanny (East Africa Tanzania)
Sjava – ‘Abangani’ feat. Emtee & Saudi Vs Cassper Nyovest – ‘Ksazoba Lit’ ( South Africa )
Wizkid – ‘Soco’ feat Terri, Ceeza Milli and Spotless (West Africa Nigeria)
One of the hit songs produced by Wizkid this year, alongside ‘Manya’ and ‘Nowo. The song was played right after the close of the 2018 Soccer World Cup which France emerged winners as the French team celebrated their victory. Soco by Wizkid being played and sung by the World Champions, Les Blues of France in their dressing room after winning the 2018 World Cup.
Wizkid: At the beginning of the year in January, Starboy announced working on a new album (his 4th)-“Well, i’m recording a new album in Lagos Nigeria…and ….eeehhh.. we’ll see…” Last year, majority of wizzy’s fan were not really satisfied with his AFTOS because everything was from the other side as US and UK fans werehis target. He had his press tour done in the US and UK including his listening parties promoted and celebrated far away from the home. We hope it’s gonna be sounds from Naija side this time. But ‘Come closer’ and ‘Daddy Yo’ did some good work for him
He’s got 3 studio albums so far anyway: Superstar (2011), Ayo (2014), Sounds from the Other Side (2017) as well as Compilation albums: Empire Mates State of Mind (2012) (with EME).
