Its December already and its been an eventful year in the music scene even with the lockdown and pandemic. Today we highlight the biggest songs of the year on the show. Note that these songs are according to #theboxshowafrica.
No 4. Nobody – Dj Neptune feat. Mr Eazi & Joeboy. The song was released in march, 2020 and was produced by Neptune Records in-house producer #Magicsticks. The Video was directed by TG Omori. According to DJ Neptune, “When Joeboy voiced the hook on Nobody’s beat, I already knew it was hit even before delivering his verse. Immediately I buzzed Mr Eazi up and told him I wanted him on a record and He said sure to send me the beat. Eazi heard the song and didn’t estimate to jump on it and in no time his vocals were in. This is how we created Nobody.” “Nobody” is an Afrobeats-inspired take on Hip hop and was produced by Magic Sticks.
No 3. Of Lagos – Mayorkun. Released on the 13th of April, 2020. The song was produced by Fresh VDM under DMW. The song follows the ‘loosie aesthetic’ of ‘Geng’ that is both unserious and built for virality. Word is the song had been trending on TikTok even before it was officially released.
No 2. Fem – Davido. Released as the first single from his album “A better Time” in September, 2020. the song was produced by Dapche and it peaked at no 1 on Apple Music Nigeria upon its release. The video hit Over 1.5 Million Views In Less Than 24 Hours On Youtube after its release.
No 1. CashApp – Bella shmurda ft Zlatan & Lincoln. Released in November, 2020. The song is built on the pop culture-inclined financial services app. While the song is also about ‘fraud,’ the song is sonically appealing and Zlatan brought a different flavour to it. With no official video, the song has about 9.9k plays on youtube and peaked at no 6 on Apple Music 100 Songs in Nigeria.
