Poem Of The Day: “Crush Of So Many Years”

First was the name,

Then came the face and I asked myself what kinda breed is this?

Skin so smooth; hairy like an Igbo girl but carries the Yoruba pride,

I get a chance of a convo in a game of “whot’” we have both participated in;

Feeling fulfilled as we finally talked,

Many years and I still have that feeling of when we first met,

Unfortunately, this is no ‘happily ever after’ ending,

I laugh out as I think of all those years of my ‘open secret’ love for you,

And your ‘nepa’ kind of love that comes and goes annually like the harmattan season,

But for some reason, we always find a way of staying neutral,

So, when you asked me what you were to me,

I replied “my soul mate” in whom have earned a five year degree in a course called ‘crush of so many years’
