Onnoghen Should Be Tried By CCT, Group Insists

The Consolidated Supporters of Democracy and Good Governance International has called on the Code of Conduct Tribunal to properly try the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

It suggested that if the suspended CJN is found guilty, he should be sentenced according to the law.

The non-governmental organisation argued that if President Muhammadu Buhari had the right to appoint him as the CJN, he also has the right to call for his trial if he is found guilty of any offence.

“Does the President have the right to suggest, recommend, appoint a CJN? And does a governor has the right to appoint a Chief Judge of the state? If they have the right to appoint them when deemed necessary without searching for who is more qualified (career wise and academically) with or without any misdemeanor unswerving by the appointee, the President, therefore, has the right to mitigate him or her of that administrative flaw when necessary,” the group said.

Speaking to our correspondent on Friday in Owerri,, the National Secretary General of the organisation, Dr. Heavens Dikebuaso, said that the CSDGG leadership would also meet with the leaders of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, with the aim of persuading IPOB to suspend its debate  on referendum that has been scheduled to hold on the same  day as the presidential election, which comes up on Saturday, February 16, 2019.
